Who can come to the Academy?

Trafford Academy will be an inclusive school with no selection by ability or faith. The admission number for 2011 onwards will be 210.

It will open in September 2010 on the sites of the two predecessor schools and all students remaining in secondary education who were attending either Lostock College or Stretford High School at the end of the previous school year, and all those students allocated places at either Lostock College or Stretford High School commencing in September 2010, will be offered a place at the Academy.

We will strive to support each application made to the Academy, however should the Academy be oversubscribed, we would follow the admissions guidance provided by the Local Authority, which gives priority to the following groups:

  1. ‘Looked After Children’ (as defined in the Education Act 2002 – Admissions);
  2. Children who live in the catchment area¹ who would have a sibling² attending the Academy at the time of admission;
  3. Children who live in the catchment area;
  4. Children who live outside the catchment area who would have a sibling attending the Academy at the time of admission;
  5. Children who live nearest to the Academy calculated in a direct straight line from the front door of the child's permanent place of residence to the Academy. This will be measured using property co-ordinates provided through a combination of the Trafford Local Land and Property Gazetteer (BS7666), other L.A.’s and Royal Mail Postal Address Information.

The child’s home address means the address where the child normally and permanently lives on a full-time basis, not the address of a child-minder, grandparent or any other relative. In the case of parents who are separated or divorced and where childcare arrangements are shared between two addresses, the average of the distances of the two addresses from the school will be used for the purpose of determining priority for admission.

If there are more applicants than can be accommodated at the Academy in criteria 1 to 4, places will be offered to those children within each criterion whose place of residence is nearest to the school as defined in criterion 5.

1. The catchment area for the Academy is all M32 postcodes and those M16 and M15 postcodes that lie within the Trafford Administrative Boundary.

2. This includes half/step/adopted/foster brothers or sisters, and any other children, who are living at the same address as part of the same family unit.
